Jan Schäfer

Jan Schäfer is one of the few artists in Germany who has been dealing explicitly with the art of enameling for many years.  His unique pieces once again enchant our online shop.

Little time journey of the enamel

The enamel art is about 3500 years old. The origins of this sophisticated handicraft lie in the Mediterranean region, between Mycenae and Cyprus. The Egyptians and the Celts also knew enamel art. At the end of the 17th century, enamel became an integral part of gold and silversmithing, with the sacred area being particularly important.

After the decline of the enamel art in the 18th century, this ancient craft was revived in the 19th century. In the 60s - 80s of the 20th century, the enamel technique became a widespread handicraft in East and West.

Now in the 21st century, enamel has once again become a very popular design tool for goldsmiths, silversmiths and jewelry designers.
